At the newly-launched Laboratory of Language, Metacognition and Decision-Making (LMD), we explore the ability of individuals to track decisions, cognitive states, and behavior in uncertain situations. This ability is often referred to as Metacognition. We believe that this ability is mediated by language properties and the linguistic experience of individuals. For example, all other factors being equal, bilinguals and monolinguals will exhibit substantial differences in metacognition, which can further be modulated by cultural, socio-economic and personality differences.

This inauguration workshop will mark the official launch and introduction of the new LMD Laboratory at the University of Coimbra, and will bring together leading experts in the field of Cognitive Neuroscience, Language, Cognition and Bilingualism to understand how language and cognition influence judgements, perceptual decisions, learning, communication, rehabilitation, and how they interact at behavioural and neural levels.

The scientific programme will include presentations from the leading experts across different fields and a poster session for more junior researchers to showcase their current and completed work (a jury will select two best poster presentations for an award).
